In this reading, I was very intrigued by how Milton explained that Adam and Eve's actions were because the serpent, Satan, deceived them. That very much so applies to life today. Satan is always deceiving us. Only good things come from God. Everything else is Satan. Throughout these first three books, it seems as if Satan is the hero. I am interested in how the rest of the book will turn out.
Very true! It is a interesting take and also one that is eye opening to a Christ Follower.

ReplyDeleteI would have to agree, there is deception all around us, and some people would actually view Satan's success of deception as heroic, such as those who (I don't know if you've kept up with news the past couple of months) gathered in Detroit to worship around the statue of Satan that was unveiled recently, and, as Christ followers, it should be, as Francesca pointed out, eye opening to us that someone would even have such view point.
ReplyDeleteThe Adversary is anything but heroic. Milton does well to portray him as the utter opposite, an abhorrent figure. Satan is completely impenitent and his sole purpose is to oppose God; nothing heroic about that.
ReplyDeleteI like your take on this. I also agree that it seems like Satan is made out to be a hero at first, but in deeper reading I infer that he's just portraying the effect he has.
